My entry for 's contest. This is my suggestion for the hunk of a furry that her creation "Mint" is pining for.
*EDIT x2* The reference was a photo I took of myself. I wanted to capture a perfectly adorable moment, where there can be no connotation of malice, depression, frustration, or brooding, like when we wake up--hence the undershirt.
I wanted the eye to be the focus of the piece. Originally, it was going to be the only thing colored. The wideness and green highlight his drowsy yet jovial demeanor, while the corruption of the iris with brown foreshadows a hidden problem. That is why he is "tricky". It is a metaphor for how I believe many beautiful women are blindly attracted to men with social probalems that are blatantly clear to others. Another part of that is why his species is canine compared to Mint's lapine Notice the other eye is "cross-stitched" shut, as though he is hiding something. He is aso partially covering his ear, as though he can only hear what he wants to hear.
I had hoped I wouldn't need to come out and explain all this, but...
I'm a lot less stingy on that rule than others. Everyone does it, after and it has become gradually more accepted by grammarians over time, so it is fine. The only reason we hold to that rule is that because Latin never ended a sentence with a preposition (it was physically impossible to do, given the syntactical precision on the language).
I based this off of a photo I took of myself a week ago. I wanted to capture a very spontaneous, very congenial moment, as though he was just waking up. The glaring eye, though, with it's two colors (like my left eye) hints at a personality that is not all "cupcakes and gumdrops," though. There are a few other things I hid in there, but maybe you can tell me...?

Heh, yeah, the pose was actually based on a photo I took of myself recently; I wanted to capture a moment of pure, unadulterated friendliness, as though he was just waking up.
The eye is meant to be green and brown (like my left eye), but why do you think I put that in there?
The old rule was that you couldn't end sentences with prepositions, but that was because Latin, one of the Indo-European ancestors of our language, could never do it. It has become a more accepted practice with time passing, however, so I am not so stingy about it anymore--though I try to avoid it if at all humanly possible.
Thanks princess

I like that you're starting to add subtle shades to your drawings--they often times add a lot more than full on high contrast lighting shading (it's easy to get carried away though ^_^; )
I could offer some critiques about the drawing itself, if you would like, but I will refrain if you would rather I not.

Well, from reading the previous comments, I've gathered what the inspiration was for the picture and got a small lesson on the modern English language, nice.
The picture is well done, and I like smirk that he has, and the eye coloring is pretty cool as well. Good work!
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
